Conductive diamond layers are produced in an activated gas phase. During this process called Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) the gas phase consisting of hydrogen, added methane – for the production of diamond – and a gaseous boron compound is activated by hot filaments (HF).

After a special pre-treatment the electrode substrates are exposed to this gas phase. If substrate temperatures between 600°C and 900°C and suitable acitivation conditions are maintained coherent, polycrystallinge diamond layers are formed on the electrode surface. During the coating process boron is added into the diamond layer.

By adding different amounts of boron the conductivity of HFCVD diamond layers can be adjusted to different applications as DIACHEM® electrodes.
